BMW kidney grille and trademark

The front grille is an important part of car design and it characterizes the car brand. 
BMW has adopted distinctive grille design which is known as "kidney grille" for more than  80 years.

With respect to "kidney grille" shape, BMW owns the rights to trademarks  in Japan (see the below).
The trademark was registered on September 27,1985.
"Kidney grille" shape can be protected trademark law forever so long as the trademark is renewed.
