Ten Japanese Great Inventors-Sakichi Toyoda

In 1985, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the patent and utility models system, Japanese Patent Office selected 10 great inventors whose contributions were particularly memorable and of historical significance.

Sakichi Toyoda who is one of the 10 great inventors, invented Wooden Weaving Machine Driven by Human Power, and obtained a patent (Patent Number 1195) for that invention in 1891.

After that, he still continued the development of weaving machines,  and gained commercial success.

Later, his family founded automobile company named "TOYOTA" in 1937.
