Sony has increased the number of applications to EPO

According to EPO's Annual Report 2016, the number of patent applications to the European Patent Office(EPO) from Japan decreased by 1.9% compared to the previous year, but that of Sony's applications increased by approximately 30% over last year.

Media reports said the fact that Sony has focused on technologies for IoT(internet of things) reflects to an increase in number of applications.

Among Japanese companies concerning the number of patent applications to EPO, Sony is top, Toyota is 17th and Panasonic is 20th.
